Terms of Participation

Mail Art Project “Postcard for Conrad” 2013-2014

1. Eligibility

Eligible to participate are young people and adults, schoolchildren from 4th grade upwards and school classes. The artist’s intention and the picture’s relevance to the title theme must be discernible (see §6 Exclusion Criteria and §10 Jury).

2. Form

Entries must be on postcards in standard postcard size (14 cm x 9 cm / 5.5 x 3.5 inches). See also our template on the blog.

The postcard must be correctly stamped and sent by post.

The postcard must include the sender’s full name (first name and surname) and postal address, and his/her e-mail address (where available).

4. Closing date is 30. Juni 2014

All postcards will be archived. After the competition all data and the original postcards will pass into the possession of the town of Weinstadt’s archive and remain there.

5. Sources and Copyrights

Each participant is responsible for ensuring that the design of his/her postcard does not infringe any third-party copyrights. By participating in the “Postcard for Conrad” mail art project, the participant confirms that no copyright has been infringed.6. Exclusion Criteria

Postcards which discriminate in any way whatsoever against third parties, or show no discernible relevance to the title theme, or have no recognisable artistic intention, will be excluded from the competition. The jury reserves the right of decision. The jury’s decision is final.

7. Publication

Participants of the mail art project consent to the publication of their postcards free of charge within the framework of the project (exhibition, documentation, advertising media) and the public relations activities of the town of Weinstadt and of the “Kunst und Keramik” school of art in Beutelsbach, for example in documentations, calendars, digital and printed advertising media etc. In case of publication, the town of Weinstadt and the “Kunst und Keramik” school of art in Beutelsbach shall in return undertake to name the artist in accordance with copyright requirements, in so far as this is tenable within the media in question.

8. The Mail Art Project in the Internet

A blog will be set up (http://derarmekonrad.wordpress.com/) on which the entries received will be published at regular intervals along with the participants’ full names.

9. Images

The images published on the blog can be included in the composition of the postcards. If additional images are used, the above-mentioned conditions apply (see §5).

Any source material used in the composition must pertain exclusively to the “Poor Conrad” uprising of 1514. In addition, it is permitted to use general illustrations from the period, for example of peasant life, provided these cannot be attributed to specific events, as well as images from the Herrenberg Altarpiece.

10. Jury

The postcard entries will be reviewed and if necessary preselected by a jury. The jury consists of the Mayor of Weinstadt and other representatives of the town of Weinstadt and the “Kunst und Keramik” school of art in Beutelsbach.

11. Exhibition in the Gallery in Beutelsbach Town Hall

In the autumn of 2014 a selection of works will be exhibited in Beutelsbach Town Hall. The exhibition will be promoted in a variety of media and will open with a vernissage. The exact date will be announced in good time.

12. Documentation

The project will be documented and a copy sent to each participant in accordance with the conditions of participation. School classes will receive one copy of the documentation per class.

13. By sending in postcard entry the participant agrees to accept the above-mentioned terms of participation.
